Curriculum and Instruction

At Lakewood Catholic Academy’s Early Childhood Program, we provide a developmentally appropriate, faith-filled learning experience that nurtures the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
Infants, Toddlers, and Two-Year-Olds engage in learning through the Frog Street Curriculum, which supports early language development, social-emotional growth, cognitive skills, and physical development through meaningful play and everyday experiences.

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students learn through The Creative Curriculum, a research-based program that promotes exploration, creativity, problem-solving, and kindergarten readiness. Through hands-on experiences and purposeful play, children build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts.

To strengthen early literacy skills, our Preschool and Pre-K students participate in the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum, a research-based program that develops listening, rhyming, segmenting, blending, and other foundational phonological awareness skills that support future reading success.

Recognizing the importance of social and emotional development, we implement Conscious Discipline throughout our program, from infants through Pre-K. This relationship-based approach helps children develop self-regulation, emotional awareness, problem-solving skills, and positive relationships while creating a safe, connected school community.

As a Catholic school, faith formation is woven throughout each day through prayer and reflection in all classrooms. We utilize the Loyola Press Religion Series and offer Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for our Preschool and Pre-K students, providing opportunities for children to grow in their relationship with God through hands-on experiences, prayer, and reflection.
