Earlier this month, Lakewood Catholic Academy hosted the 9th annual Spark Conference for elementary educators and administrators from across Ohio. The professional development experience is designed to ignite a spark in educators and ready them for the school year ahead. This year, we were thrilled to welcome about 200 attendees from 19 different schools. Along with the conference attendees, we also welcomed keynote speaker, William Martinez, to campus.
William’s presentation centered around how educators have been influential in shaping his life. It served as an important reminder for teachers as they enter the new school year that they impact each student who walks through their doors.
At LCA, we do everything we can to ensure that our students’ educational and developmental experiences are positive and will shape them into bright young adults. Whether it’s by continuing exciting traditions, through dynamic daily lessons, or by challenging students to reach new levels, LCA teachers are here to support and uplift every student.
In addition to the keynote presentation, Brian Sinchak presented on how AI and technology has, and will continue, to impact elementary education. He discussed the positive and negative aspects of utilizing the tools, and how he ultimately believes that human connection and problem solving are the most essential aspects of a child’s educational experience. This year, LCA will continue to implement our LCA Looks Up curriculum and encourage our students to think critically and use technological tools intentionally.
Each year, schools in attendance can nominate educators who they feel are most deserving of the Spark Teaching Award. Ultimately, three prestigious awards were presented, including to LCA’s own Karen Beegan and Mary Davidson. Both of these women’s passion for teaching and dedication to their students is apparent in their work, and will continue to benefit students for years to come. Congratulations Karen and Mary!
