Tackle, Rookie Tackle & Flag Football

Opportunities to Play:

Through CYO, LCA currently participates in:

• Flag football, open to boys and girls in grades 1-4
• Rookie tackle football, open to boys in grades 5 and 6
  • In 5th grade rookie tackle, teams play 7-on-7, with full pads, on a shortened field
  • In 6th grade rookie tackle, teams play 8-0n-8, with full pads, on a regulation field
• Tackle football (traditional eleven-man), open to boys in grades 7 and 8

Flag football and rookie tackle football teams play against other teams at their same grade level, while, in tackle football, teams compete against other teams with combined 7th and 8th grade rosters.

Schedule Overview

Subject to change, general schedule information includes:

• Practices are held two to four nights per week, depending on grade level. Through local partnerships, practices are held off-campus but within close proximity to the school.
• All CYO football games are played Saturdays and Sundays, with one game per weekend.
  • Flag football games can be played either Saturday or Sunday
  • Rookie tackle games tend to be played on Saturdays
  • 7th and 8th grade tackle games tend to be played on Sundays

All teams are led by CYO certified volunteer/parenty coaches. Students enrolled at Lakewood Catholic Academy or who are parishioners at St. Clement, St. James, St. Luke or Transfiguration parishes are eligible, per CYO rules, to participate. A CYO physical form, signed by the student’s pediatrician, must be on file prior to the first practice (physical forms are valid for thirteen months).
