Track + Field
Track & Field is open to boys and girls in grades 1-8.
Practices
- Practices begin in early March.
- 1st-4th grade runners practice on Tuesdays & Thursdays, while grades 5-8 practice Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday.
- Practices last approximately one hour and locations vary by season, utilizing Lakewood Park and the facilities of local high schools.
- It is expected that all participants attend every practice.
- A current physical must be on file in order to participate.
Uniforms
- LCA will provide a singlet and running shorts for all athletes.
- Athletes need to provide their own running shoes/spikes. Spikes are not recommended for 1st-4th grade runners.
Track Meets
- CYO meets for grades 1-4 are held on Saturdays (times vary), while 5th-8th grade meets take place on Sunday afternoon. Meets are typically held from late March through mid-May.
- Meets last approximately two hours.
- Meet sites rotate among several west side high school tracks.
- Athletes are permitted to participate in up to three events at each meet.
- Track events include: 100m, 200m, 200m hurdles, 400m, 800m, 1600m & 4x100m relay for 5th-8th grade runners and the 100m, 200m, 400m 800m & 4x100m relays for 1st-4th grade runners.
- Field events include: shot put, running long jump & standing jump for all runners, as well as discus and high jump for grades 6-8.
